TEXT:   Romans 5:1-8

I.       (v.1) JESUS CAME TO BRING THE GIFT OF PEACE WITH GOD

(Romans 5:1) “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

(Isaiah 9:6) “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

(Corrie Ten Boom) “I looked on Jesus and the dove of peace entered my heart. I looked at the dove of peace, and lo ... off he went.”

(Isaiah 53:5) “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

(Acts 10:36) “You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.”

(Colossians 1:20) “…and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”

(Lloyd Ogilvie) “When we water down the cross we drown in our confusion and take others down with us.”

(Ephesians 2:14-16) “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.”

(Romans 5:10) “For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”

II.    (vs.2-5) JESUS CAME TO BRING THE GIFT OF HOPE

(Romans 5:2) “…through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.”

(John 14:6)  “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

(Psalm 61:2-4) “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.”

(I Peter 1:3) “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

(Colossians 1:27) “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

(Psalm 16:11) “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

(Philippians 4:4) “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”

(Martin Luther King, Jr.) "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope."

(David Osborn) “Too often we try to use God to change our circumstances, while He is using our circumstances to change us."

(I Peter 3:15) “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

(Colossians 1:5) “…the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel…”

(I John 3:3) “Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.”

(Romans 5:5) “And hope does not disappoint us…”

III. (vs.5-8) JESUS CAME TO BRING THE GIFT OF LOVE

B. THE TIMING OF GOD’S LOVE

(Romans 5:6) “You see, at just the right time…,”

(Galatians 4:4-5) “But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law…”

(John 15:5) “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

C. THE RECIPIENT OF GOD’S LOVE

(Romans 5:10) “For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”

(Mark 2:17) “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

(Romans 5:7) “Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.”

(Romans 5:8) “While were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

(Romans 5:8) “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

D. THE DEMONSTRATION OF GODS LOVE

(Ephesians 2:4-5) “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.
